 2010 GRE 18-mile Marathon: Saturday August 7th
Paddle from Burlington Bay to Encampment Island and back in a single or tandem kayak, or try a 2-single kayak team. Teams may try short and long line towing, drafting, or any creative human-powered way to cross the finish line together. A Pro Class is available (Unlimited Composite) for sprint kayaks, surf skis, etc. One aid station is available. All racers receive a t-shirt and medallion. All forms of outrigger canoes (OC-1's, 2', 4's and 6's) are invited to join in the GRE Marathon as well, come celebrate 13 years of open water racing on Lake Superior. There are OC-6's available if you can form a team or if you're an individual looking for a team please contact us.
Friday, August 6th, GRE Marathon, Betty's Pies Race Participant Check-in/Reception
GRE Marathon and Betty's Pies Race participants check in at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors. This is your last chance to pre-register for events. A reception will be held at Burlington Bay for sponsors, racers, tours and clinic participants. Food and beverages will be provided. Bring your family, don't miss the fun! Winners in each class will receive beautiful, hand crafted pottery by Al Omarzu. GRE 18-mile Marathon cash awards will be given to the three fastest men and women in either Production Plastic or Production Composite kayaks. Cash awards will also be given to the three fastest men and women in Unlimited Racing Kayaks provided a minimum of three kayaks are racing in each class. The cash award breakdown will be $150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third.
